Southeastern parts of Mogilev Oblast expected to demonstrate growth every year

14.08.2019

>Southeastern parts of Mogilev Oblast should produce payoff. Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko made the relevant statement during the government conference held in the town of Kostyukovichi on 14 August to discuss the development of the region, BelTA has learned.

Aleksandr Lukashenko said: “I am absolutely convinced that it is time for these areas to produce some payoff. They should not find themselves castaways. Local people need a decent life and should be proud of the fact that they live in Slavgorod, Kostyukovichi or Khotimsk. We will squeeze so much that someone's eyes may pop out. You may consider it a historical moment for the region as far as the form and the content of this day are concerned. We know what needs to be done here. As the oblast governor says, we know we will do it. We will teach those, who don't know how to do it. We will force those, who don't want to do it. There is no other way about it.”

The president stressed that this region has to demonstrate growth every year. “Feel free to explore all options – small business, medium business, self-employed businessmen. But remember we need solid enterprises, which can work for a long time and which products will sell well. We are talking about people's confidence,” the head of state stressed. Aleksandr Lukashenko is convinced that large enterprises produce the largest payoff for the country.

As an example Aleksandr Lukashenko mentioned the trout farm Lokhva, which he had visited during the working trip to Kostyukovichi District. The enterprise shows good profits. It has the capability to grow larger. The fish products sell well on the home market and abroad. “It is what we should pay attention to. No small enterprises or medium ones will bring us happiness. They are supposed to give jobs to people, to keep them employed,” he remarked. “You should create and support large enterprises: private and state-run ones alike. Manufacturing cooperation is an option. But you have to understand that they need to last.”

Speaking about decisions made four years ago when the program and the presidential decree on developing southeastern districts of Mogilev Oblast were passed, Aleksandr Lukashenko explained he had had his doubts about the correctness and the timeliness of the decisions. “Frankly speaking, back then I was not entirely convinced we should start dealing with problems of this region in a radical manner. But I thought that we would have to pull up this region to the relevant standards sooner or later in the end.” Back then the head of state suggested taking a closer look at the region and working out a program on its development.

A presidential decree was signed to provide a number of preferences. “Since I was not entirely convinced we should put much effort into implementing the program, I didn't put pressure on you in turn: let's do it if you want, I am going to help you and naturally will demand results,” Aleksandr Lukashenko noted. Nowadays after the oblast administration is fully immersed into existing problems the head of state is convinced it is necessary to develop the southeastern areas as fast as possible. This is why Aleksandr Lukashenko gave instructions to update the existing program right away.

According to the head of state, the program has to thoroughly specify all the projects starting with organizing the production and personnel recruitment and ending with the construction of social infrastructure. “This is what I need. I don't want to read hundreds of incomprehensible pages that you will write and once again fail to implement,” Aleksandr Lukashenko stressed. “Enough talking and studying. Update the program and give it to me. I want to know what and where will be made. I want a summary: this will increase meat and milk production, this will improve industry, services, roads, schools, kindergartens and the rest. I want an easy-to-read manageable document instead of theory spanning many pages.”
